Ferndale Campus

Located in Ferndale Road, Swindon, the School of Health and Social Care at Oxford Brookes University (www.brookes.ac.uk)has been teaching (first registration) Adult Nursing Degree and Diploma courses at its Ferndale Campus since 1999 and, from 2007, a (first registration) Diploma course in Operating Department Practice (ODP). We have a flourishing student community of approximately 250 students.

Facilities

Ferndale provides excellent spacious facilities for students, and a very friendly and supportive environment in which to learn.

We have:

  • Clinical skills suites and a fully-functioning operating theatre equipped with the latest simulation resources and models
  • Comfortable seminar rooms
  • Well-equipped lecture rooms with state of the art audio visual equipment
  • A resource centre with a range of learning materials
  • A large student common room area, refectory, and vending machines
  • Fully networked student computers with internet access and the university's online resources
  • An osteopathic teaching clinic offering a comprehensive range of treatments to staff, students and the public

Lecturers

The lecturers are experts in their fields of interest and have strong links with the local NHS trusts, the independent sector and (in the case of ODP), a wide range of theatre settings.

Placements

Adult Nursing students undertake clinical placements in the acute hospital setting at Great Western Hospital and community locations within Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. ODP students will undertake their clinical placements in theatre settings across the south-west.
